Frequently Asked Questions

01What are meta tags?

Meta tags are short pieces of HTML in a page’s head section that tell search engines and social media what the page is about. The most important are the title tag and the meta description, which often appear as the clickable headline and summary in Google results.

02How long should a meta title and description be?

Keep titles to about 50–60 characters and descriptions to about 120–160 characters. Google cuts off longer text based on pixel width, so the preview in this tool also shows the approximate pixel width.

03Does Google still use the meta keywords tag?

No. Google ignores the meta keywords tag for ranking. The tool includes it because some other search engines and site tools still read it, and you can simply leave it out of your page.

04What are Open Graph and Twitter tags?

Open Graph tags control how your page looks when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and other apps: the title, description and image. Twitter card tags do the same for X (Twitter). Adding them makes shared links look more professional and get more clicks.

05Where do I add these meta tags?

Paste the HTML code inside the <head> section of your page, replacing any existing title and description tags. On WordPress, use an SEO plugin such as Yoast or Rank Math and paste the title and description from the plain text version instead.

06Is my information saved?

No. The meta tags are generated in your browser and nothing you type is sent to our server.
